SJUK Leaders in Security Conference 2024

Boguslawa Motylska (aka Baxi), CPTED-UK Director moderated the PEOPLE & PROJECTS panel discussion that explored the relationship between security and the user experience at the Security Journal UK Leaders in Security Conference in Manchester.

The panel has brought together a multi-disciplinary cross-sector team of experts to dissect the future of security in the built environment.

SJUK Leaders in Security 2024 People & Projects Panel:

  • Andrew Wootton, Professor of Human-Centred Design Innovation and Director of the Design Against Crime Solution Centre, Salford University
  • Bruce Braes, Head of Security Consulting, Buro Happold
  • Garry Bergin, Commercial Manager & Security Consultant, Manguard Plus
  • Erik Nord, Industry Subject Matter Expert – Cloud Solutions, acre security

Baxi said: “It was a dream panel to moderate the built environment security discussion with. The specific skills, experiences, interests and sectors represented by the individuals helped us bring up the most prominent current trends. It’s also the mix of personalities that made the discussion so engaging. All panellists are seasoned experts in their respective areas of security with almost legendary status in the industry.”

“The worldwide experience that Bruce brought to the panel was invaluable and provided reassurance that security risk management is not always a ‘smooth sail’ and even the most prestigious projects face challenges.

Garry’s ability to capture the imagination of the audience is next to none. The key points he made are not only backed up by his wealth of experience but also ’emotionally sustainable’ which means we’ll remember what he said and be able to use it at the right time.

Andrew’s expertise in human centred design is world-class and his reputation precedes him. Design as a process is something Andrew knows inside-out, and we should be grateful he applies it to Crime Prevention. Let’s keep it that way!

Erik’s name should come up with a warning as his passion for technology in security systems is highly contagious. He knows off the top of his head the year iPhone 1st gen was launched- that speaks volumes…”

CPTED-UK are grateful to the SJUK for setting up such an insightful event.
